Solar Hot Water

Water
is heated easily with solar power. Traditional water heaters ran by
electricity or gases contribute greatly to CO2 emissions. In fact one
year of traditional water heating produces double the CO2 than the use
of a vehicle for one year.
Solar water heaters last up to twenty years and even though they may
be more costly to install they pay for themselves in eight years. Giving
the homeowner twelve years of free hot water! The federal government
even gives a thirty percent tax credit towards the price of installing
a solar hot water heater.
Solar hot water heaters use a pump to pump the water through the solar
collectors that heat the water. The water then returns to a heated storage
tank. The tanks have valves that trap the heat in. If needed an auxiliary
system can be used to help supply more energy when demands are high.
